I wish I was...

I sure do wish I was here...  On the top of Pike's Peak!
Just sitting in my office dreaming about hiking the mountains!   I sure wish I lived closer to those beautiful, Rocky Mountains!
Happy Friday to all!

Valley of Vision

For my class this semester we are reading through the Valley of Vision-  I still remember when my dear dad introduced me to the Valley of Vision.  I love reading the prayers of these puritans.  Here is one that struck me this week as I was reading it.  Oh that I would remember that ALL God's works are perfect and that He gives and takes for His glory!  He withholds our wishes because He knows what is best!  It is refeshing to remember the Sovereignty of our Great God!

Valley of Vision- “Choices” p. 193

“All my desires have not been gratified, but thy love denied them to me.

When fulfillment of my wishes would have proved my ruin or injury.

My trials have been fewer than my sins, and when I have kissed the rod it has fallen from they hands.

All thy work for me is perfect, and I praise thee.”

I Kissed Dating Goodbye

Today was a special day in chapel as Joshua Harris spoke and Bob Kauflin led worship!  It was amazing to hear the excitement of Bob Kauflin as he led worship this morning and as we sang one of my favorite Sovereign Grace songs- O Great God!  It was a treat to hear from Joshua Harris.  I was introduced to him in high school when he wrote I Kissed Dating Goodbye.  Though controversial, this book was very instrumental in my high school days calling youth to pursue courtship with a purpose toward marriage!  It was very revolutionary at the time and counter cultural.  I am trying to savor these last chapels, as depending where the Lord leads, it could be our last semester at Southern.

Battling Unbelief Bible Study!

Tuesday night we started a new study at Faith Community Church for the Women on Battling Unbelief by John Piper. What a blessing it was to get together with the women and talk about an area that often paralyzes many of us. In preparing to lead this study, I was struck with a careful observation by John Piper. He made an amazing observation in linking Matthew 6:34 to Lamentations 3:22-23.

Matt. 6:34- “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Lamentations 3:22-23- “The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

He observed that there is a link between these verses. Matthew says that each day will have its own troubles and we must deal with the trouble you have today and don’t think about the trouble for tomorrow. God gives us new grace for each day. His mercies are NEW every morning. Most of us in anxiety think about the troubles of tomorrow with the resources of today and think to ourselves, I don’t think I can make it any longer… He observes that we can’t because we are living in today’s mercies. Therefore, sufficient for today is its own troubles and God’s gracious mercies. May we focus on today with the mercies God has given, remembering that tomorrow will be new and there will be new mercies for tomorrow’s troubles. So we should not focus on tomorrow but today- How can we serve our gracious God today with the strength that He has supplied specially suited for our troubles for this day!
