...One Who Fears the Lord

(Michael’s annual takeover of Erin’s Blog!)
In painting the picture of a virtuous and remarkable wife, Proverbs 31:30 states, “Charm is deceitful and beauty is a vapor; (but) a woman who fears Yahweh (the LORD)—she should be praised!”

Such a woman is my wife, Erin. When I first laid eyes on her, I was attracted by her modesty, for gently she displayed her beauty without drawing undue attention to herself. As I watched more of her, I saw that she understood external beauty to be a vapor—as she devoted more time to pursuing inner beauty than outer beauty. And yet what beauty she has of both!

On Erin’s birthday, I give thanks to God that the Spirit of God within her has continued to shape her into a woman who fears the Lord. I am the most blessed man to be loved by such a woman. And my children are privileged to be mothered by such a God-fearing mommy. And so today I obey Proverbs 31:30 and give praise to her and praise for her.

I am joined by the chorus of her many friends who too have seen what I have seen. Here is just a snippet of what her friends have written about her over the past month:
I give thanks to God for Erin because…
  •  “One word that stands out to me when I think of you is encourager…” *(encouragement mentioned over 30 times!)
  • “I know of few others who let His love shine through them like you…”
  • “of your efforts to gather people together for fun and fellowship…”
  • “the focus of your ministry is always others-centered…”
  • “God has gifted you with open communication…”
  • “of your compassion and concern for me…”
  • “of your purposeful friendship…”
  • “of the grace that was given you in Christ Jesus…
  • “of the evidences of grace I see in your life…”
  • “In the midst of many difficulties you have clung to Jesus as your great reward.”
  • “You are careful to prioritize your family even above things that might give you more short term personal satisfaction…”
  • “Your friendship is a gift to me…”
  • “You value the things of God…”
  • “You are an energetic, enthusiastic, engaging person…”
  • “You have an infectious faith that makes the love of God palpable to all…”
  • “You are honest and humble…”
  • “Your nature is so gentle and positive…”
  • “You show the joy and peace of Jesus…”
  • “You have the gift of hospitality…”
  • “You have such a loving heart for God and others…”
  • “You bring smiles to my face…”
  • “You have welcomed me into your life…”
  • “You model mission-mindedness towards neighbors…”
  • “You aren’t wrapped up in makeup, fashion, or television culture, which encourages so many other women to just be who God made you to be…”
  • “You remain faithful to your calling as a wife and mother…”
  • “You exhibit the fruit of the Spirit…”
  • “You are just the wife Michael needs…”
  • “You encourage and spur me on to righteousness without making me feel foolish…”

Happy Birthday Erin!

Ball...

My little girl is obsessed with balls- she sees a ball and gets all excited.  We brought a meal to a girl that had a baby Tuesday night  in our church and doubled it and brought Gigi a meal as well.  We stayed and visited Gigi and she taught Lydie- Ball... Now that is all she says.  Because Lydie has had a fever for 3 days, we stayed home from small group tonight and went in the back to blow bubbles- any excuse to get some fresh air.  I guess when you have a brother- you have to love balls!  :)

Spring Trips...

A few crazy fun activities- a friend and I took our kids to this Jump House- they have half off on Fridays and boy did Jeremiah have a blast- he loved this slide!
And we have been frequenting the zoo a lot this spring so far- the tulips are in full bloom and so thankful for a zoo pass that Michael's parents got us for Christmas!  With him being so busy, this has definitely come in handy!  Though the cousins enjoy playing together- they have been quarantined this week as downstairs they have the stomach flu and upstairs- Lydia has been fighting a fever and virus.  I thought spring was supposed to take away all the germs!  :)

Easter Egg Hunt...

Our church did an Easter Egg Hunt.  Jeremiah made out with a ton of eggs and candy.  So thankful for the people that worked to make this hunt to great and it was neat to meet some new faces that came to check out our church through the Easter Egg Hunt.  Jeremiah is always holding a glass of lemonade- the kid would become "lemonade" and drink it all the time if we would let him- oh my!  :)

Good Friday...

Today, we celebrate Good Friday and think upon the cost our sin bore our Savior!  We think about the fact God the Father turned His back on His Son for us- bearing the full wrath of God!  This morning, Jeremiah and I worked on our Resurrection Eggs going through each one and laying them out on the table and then we read in the Jesus Storybook Bible the story of Jesus' Betrayal in the Garden- his crucifixion and death!  One line in the story just caught me- the one bearing tears was the One who would wipe every tear from every eye!  God the Father crushed the Son for US!  Praise God!  Praying that Jeremiah understands the full weight of sin today and the suffering of Christ on the cross!  This year we have made a resurrection garden and planted grass seed which is nicely growing- we put Jesus on the cross today and then took him down and wrapped him in linen (TP) and placed him in our tomb and rolled the stone at the entrance of the tomb!  How we can't wait for Sunday morning when we get to sing- He Has RISEN from the dead- just like He said!

We tried making some lamb cupcakes the other day for an Easter egg hunt and used jelly beans to make flower cupcakes- may we contemplate the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world today!  Happy Good Friday- Christ died and was buried for us!

Palm Sunday...

Palm Sunday!  We told the story of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey and shouted "Hosanna, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!"  We practiced waving our leaves and singing our Steve Green- "Hosanna" song!  Even Lydie loved waving her leaf!  Jeremiah loved shouting "Hosanna".  Jesus is King- we are getting ready for Easter this week!

Lydie

Lydie loves to stick out her tongue- so we tried to take a picture of us both sticking out our tongues- guess she thought I should look goofy and not her.  :)  Today- Lydie is officially done with nursing.  I think sometimes it is sadder for the Mama than the kiddo.  She is a good eater though and loves her sippy cup of milk.
