Wind Cave and Custer State Park

Tuesday, June 27th we headed to Wind Cave National Park.  The boys enjoyed the Fairgrounds Cave Tunnel tour.  They learned that this is the 4th largest cave in the nation.  Lydia, Judah and I stayed on the sunlit surface and enjoyed watching prairie dogs and bison.  There is only a small entrance to the surface of the cave, all the other ways into the cave are through an elevator.

We saw lots of bison, burros and even some pronged sheep.  We then drove through Custer State Park.  We drove through a section with lots of wildlife and then we drove on the Needles Highway.  This drive was amazing through spires of rock.  We wanted to hike the Cathedral Spires trail but didn't have enough time.  Instead the boys loved climbing the rocks and we found a wonderful lake with rocks to climb on called Sylvan Lake.  Jeremiah even took a dip in the frigid cold water.  The boys loved climbing on the rocks.  It truly is a boys dream come true.  We ate dinner at Texas Roadhouse and the kids thought it was such a treat to eat there.  Every night we come back to the hotel for the kids to go swimming.
